Old Faithful, Geyser Basins and more wildlife!

Today we did the lower loop tour of Yellowstone and were again up pretty early to do so! Once inside the park we travelled along the Firehole River, stopping at the Firehole Falls and the Lower Geyser Basin.

We then drove to the Upper Geyser Basin, where Old Faithful is! It was scheduled to erupt at 10:56, but was 10 minutes early! Luckily we had found good seats 20 minutes earlier and we saw the whole eruption which lasted for about 2 minutes!

After watching Old Faithful we drove to Yellowstone Lake for our picnic lunch! It was really quiet and peaceful!

After lunch we drove up Hayden Valley where we saw a Grizzly Bear!! It was pretty far away, across the Yellowstone River, but we could see it fairly clearly through some binoculars!!

We next stopped at Mud Volcano and Dragon's Mouth Spring, which were at an acidic geyser basin, and very violent and smelly!

As we continued our drive up Hayden Valley we saw some more amazing wildlife; an elk in the Yellowstone River  that was being circled by two wolves! It was a little sad knowing the fate of the elk, but I guess that is the circle of life, and it was pretty cool to see!

On our drive back to West Yellowstone we stopped off at the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone again, and it was really interesting to see all the colours of the canyon in full daylight!

We got back to West Yellowstone at about 4:30pm and then headed out into the town to get an early dinner at the Wild West Pizzeria!! It was very Wild West inside, which was cool and our food was great! We shared garlic and Parmesan breadsticks to start and then I had the Wild West Special Pizza and Tom made up his own, consisting of Sausage, Bacon, Peppers and Spinach!!

We headed back to our Cabin at about 6:30pm, and have been washing our clothes and dancing to Christmas songs! Just about to watch National Treasure  on Netflix!
