Things to do in and around Pembrokeshire, Wales

Whoa, its been a crazy few weeks! If you didn't already know, I have recently moved out and started uni life at the University of East Anglia, so it's been pretty hectic in my life; with freshers week, meeting loads of new people and beginning my degree! However, while I am loving every second of it, I have unfortunately been neglecting my poor little blog and promising posts to you which have never appeared... sorry! Things have now calmed down a bit and I am establishing a nice routine in my day to keep organised and stop myself from going insane!!! So here it is, the long awaited blog post on my holiday in Pembrokeshire, Wales!

From August 29th to September 5th I went on an annual family holiday to Pembrokeshire in Wales. The fam, my boyfriend and my brothers best friend stayed in a little fishing village called Solva (Solfach in Welsh!), which is so cute, and I think is my favourite place in Wales that I have been so far. We stayed in a gorgeous cottage called Tan y Craig, which was so beautifully designed and well thought out.

Tan Y Craig is the white cottage in the middle.

I want to talk about the things that we did whilst we were there so I'll start with the best thing, which was Venture Jet - a jet boat tour of Ramsey Island. You can see footage from this in my holiday video edit which I will link at the end of the post. The trip basically involves speeding around the island on a jet boat of which you sit on the edge, doing awesome manoeuvres and tricks where the skipper (driver/captain) tries to get you as soaked as possible! They also pause to teach you about the wildlife and geology of the island, including spotting seals and porpoises and going into cave systems! The guys that run the trip are so knowledgeable and experienced so you are guaranteed an amazing adventure from start to finish!!

Another amazing activity that I went on was sea kayaking along part of the Pembrokeshire coastline with Dragon Activity Guides. It was a beautifully calm morning, which we spent exploring the interesting coastline, squeezing through tight gaps between rocks and exploring incredible caves. However, this wasn't considered enough of an adrenaline boost for my Dad, brother and his friend, who instead went extreme coasteering in the afternoon, which involved abseiling, scrambling up rocks and cliff jumping. They had an insane time and would definitely recommend it to any adrenaline junkies out there!

Aside from a couple of exciting trips out, most of the time we spent visiting various beaches and going on cliff top walks. My favourite beaches are as follows:

Druidstone

Newgale

Solva

Gwadn

Caerfai

Now for the most important part that I'm sure you've all been waiting for... food. I'll start off with breakfast! On one sunny morning we had a glorious full welsh breakfast in a cafe in Solva called Thirty Five. The breakfasts were awesome and the coffee was great too! I thought the prices were very good value and there was plenty of space to either sit out in the sunshine or inside the cute little cafe. We also had an amazing take away from here on our last night as we were packing, good old fish and chips! The batter was amazingly crispy on both sides and there was no skin on the fish, hooray!!!

Now there is one place that we simply cannot miss out on when we come to Pembrokeshire and this is The Bench/Gianni's Ice Cream. In total we went here on about 4 separate occasions in the one holiday... #addicted... They have the most fascinating selection of flavours I have ever seen from Red Bull to Jaffa Cake to various alcoholic flavours, and also the more classic Strawberries and Cream and Death by Chocolate(always a winner)! But most unusually, they do ice cream for dogs. WHAT. Its crazy! We ordered one for Fleur and Lyra to share which came in a little dog bowl and complete with a wafer, they loved it!!! My favourite flavour of ice cream, that I get at least once per holiday has to be Nutella, which is amazing!!!

Lots of days we spent all day out at the beach, swimming, walking and snorkeling, so you will not find it surprising that some days we just did not feel like cooking when we got back! However, we found the perfect solution... Pan Aroma Gourmet Take Away!!! This take away is literally mind-blowing! They set up in different areas around Pembrokeshire, so you can order your take away and then go and collect it by car. They offer all sorts of cuisine, but we all went for Asian food. I had an amazing Pad Thai but was super jealous of Tom who ordered Teryaki Chicken noodles!

On one of our last nights in Wales, we went for a lovely meal out at The Cambrian Inn, Solva.  The restaurant is beautifully decorated with lots of interesting artwork, giving it a lovely atmosphere. I had a Prawn Cocktail to start, followed by the Cambrian Fat Pig Burger! They do an amazing range of 'fat' burgers, including fat beef, lamb, chicken and fish as well as pork! I also had a lovely banoffee pie for dessert! I absolutely loved the starter, although it was pretty big, and the burger was good too, however it had a very overpowering sagey flavour, so if you don't like that
kind of strong herby flavour I would perhaps try the 'Fat Cow' burger instead. The dessert was also very lovely! We go back to the Cambrian Inn every year and I would definitely recommend it!

That is it for my Pembrokeshire recommendations, let me know if you enjoyed this post and have been/are planning to go to Pembrokeshire! Here is a link to my Video Edit! I would also love to hear of any of your recommendations so feel free to leave a comment! From now on I am going to try and be more regular with my blog posts so stay tuned!
